Hand Exercises

Hand Stretches:

  • Take your right hand and place them under the fingers of your left hand. Lift your left hand up, at the wrist stretching the forearm. Hold it for a count of three. Repeat on the other hand.
  • Place your hands together in the flat prayer position. Your hands should be in front to your face. Slowly lower your hands (still together) down toward your waist. Hold it for a count of three.
  • Place your hands together with the backs of your hands together this time. Drop your elbows down, just a bit and hold them there for a count of three. Relax
  • Stretch your fingers out as far as you can, hold for a count of three. Relax your fingers and bring them into a fist. Tighten your fist for a count of three, then relax and stretch out your fingers again, hold for a count of three and then relax.
  • Place your hands in a relaxed fist. Make 2 – 3 wide circles with your wrists. Go in the opposite direction.
  • Drumming: Drum your fingers on the table/desk top.
  • Finger Counting: With your thumb touch the ends of each finger in succession. Reverse direction.
  • Finger stretches: Take your thumb of your right hand and starting at the base of your left palm, push along your palm and gently bend your pinkie finger back. Then do your ring finger, then your middle finger, and index finger.
  • Finger pulls: Grasp your pinkie finger by its base with you thumb and index finger of the opposite hand. Gently pull the finger out and slide your thumb and index finger down the finger.

 

Hand strengthening:

  • Get either a rubber ball or some play dough and work (squeeze) it with your hands (do both).
  • Finger strengthening: curl your fingers under slightly. Hook your hands together by the fingers and try to pull your fingers straight.
  • Spread your fingers out on your left hand. With your right hand, try to squeeze your fingers together while resisting.
